Welcome to Lydonland Tim Lydon’s musical journey started before he was even born. His biggest influences, his parents, were avid music fans, and his father played drums in bands for many years. Born with a hyperactive spirit and the desire to emulate his father, Tim started banging away on the drums in the basement when he was 3 years old, standing up on books because the drums were too tall for him to reach. As Tim grew older, his musical curiosity grew into trying to recreate the experience of going to his first rock concert. Tim joined the school band program, the start of many years of locking himself in the garage and bedroom, practicing for hours on end. At age 14, Tim started attending drum corps camps and master classes, as well as studying with private instructors Mark Botti and Kevin Lepper of Vandercook University. This led to numerous accolades, as well as scholarships in music education & jazz studies from all over the country. Tim decided to pursue a career in music education as well as the exploration of piano, guitar and composition. While in college, Tim started playing the club circuit with various bands in many different genres of music, all the while soaking up knowledge in the classroom. Tim also took on management and marketing roles for several bands, and this had a lasting effect on him. He put his education on hold and decided to show his chops onstage, traveling with many different bands. There was no looking back once the dream of rock stardom came knocking at the door. Around the same time, Tim also starting working at the Drum Pad, the largest percussion shop in the country. Working alongside some of the most accomplished drummers not just in Chicago but in the world changed Tim’s life, as he was able to connect with people who shared his passion and desire to make a difference in the music community. Tim took this attitude into the studio and onstage with a never-say-die attitude not often seen in younger players of his generation. Tim has shared the stage with many different artists, including Kiss, Everclear, The Killers, Papa Roach, Poison, Wynton Marsalis, and Shiny Toy Guns. He also has been on many national TV and radio shows. Currently, Tim is playing with Swizzle Tree as well as Live Band Karaoke touring act The Hootenanners. In addition, he is an active session player, songwriter, and arranger.
